Annie Choi Nguyen (Thai Huu Binh) passed peacefully on December 7th ,2017 after a two year fight with ovarian cancer.

Daughter of Than Thai and Hien Tang , Annie was born on September 20,1947 in Saigon Vietnam.

She married her love of her life John Nguyen in June 1971.They have two sons, Phillip (Phat) and Darren (Dat).

During the Fall of Vietnam, April 1978, Annie’s family had a choice to stay under the communist regime or to evacuate for their freedom. Annie’s family made the ultimate sacrifice by leaving the family home, businesses and some family members. They left with whatever money,gold and possessions they had, that was used to help get out of Vietnam.

The family escaped on a boat in the middle of the night. After spending a traumatic month out in sea, enduring horrific storms, deaths, robbery from pirates and little to no food just living each day with prayers and hope of survival. Just like the other 200,000+ Vietnamese refugees, Annie and her family eventually ended up on the shores of Malaysia, they spent the next six months in a refugee camp. With their remaining family members not with them, they eventually found out that their separated family members arrived safely in Indonesia, the family would eventually be reunited in the USA.

June 1979 with the persistence and love for his family, her brother Chalie (already in the USA with Annie’s brother Ben and sister Dai) and with the help of Saint Michaels Lutheran Church a church group in Cherry Hill NJ, sponsored them to come to the United States.

In those first few days months, years in being In a new country, The Choi-Nguyen family settle into their new home in Voorhees NJ. With the assistance of her brothers, sister and sponsor family and soon to be very close friend Mike Phillips, they helped Annie register her oldest sons and nephews Tai and Phong for school. In the weeks and months that followed, the Phillips family was an intricate part of the Annie life.

Annie worked several jobs before eventually becoming a business woman.She co-owned a furniture store at the Pennsauken Mart with her brother Ben. After years of running a business she spent the remainder of her work years as a dietician at Virtua Hospital. She retired May 2013 and loved traveling with her husband, family and close friends.

July 2015 she was diagnosed stage IV ovarian cancer; she remained strong, hopeful, and never gave up. The continuous support from family and friends she continued her battle.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Nguyen and her oldest son, Phillip (Phat) and Sherbeth and grandchildren Joshua,Jacquelyn and Jaidyn and her youngest son Darren (Dat) and Kim and granddaughter Kylie. 7 Brothers and 2 Sisters, host of Cousins, nieces and Nephews.
